When spiritualism first developed, it was widely embraced by much of the public because it seemed to provide solid proof of the claims made by traditional Christianity for centuries. However, this does not meant that Christian leaders eagerly welcomed it. Quite the opposite was usually the case, in fact. A few certainly involved themselves with the spiritualist movements, this was often as a result of attempting to contact loved ones they had recently lost.
