Few politicians and political candidates are atheists. Most of the people represented by politicians are also not atheists, so it's understandable if politicians pander to religious beliefs generally and to Christianity in particular, but that does not excuse or justify anti-atheist bigotry. If you object to voting for people who object to your existence or equality, you have to learn what political candidates really believe. That takes some effort, but discovering what your representatives think about atheists, secularism, and church/state separation is worth it.
