Weekly Poll: Do You Adapt Easily to Change?
Nov 3rd 2011, 08:00

One of the things that seems to drive conservative and fundamentalist religion is social or cultural change -- in particular, fear of those changes. The greater the changes, the more people become afraid, and then the more the power of conservative religion grows. So it's not surprising I guess that in one poll atheists reported themselves to be able to adapt easily to change at higher rates than "active-faith" adults.

Also, in a society where most atheists had to become atheists through some process of personal change, it would be odd if those same atheists expressed difficulty in adapting to change. I'm sure that in a society where atheism is the norm and theism is something that has to be acquired later on, the results wouldn't be the same. They might even be the exact opposite.

But what about you -- do you find that you adapt easily to change in your life or not? Is this something that has itself changed as you have gotten older? Is it something that has changed since you were a theist (if you ever were)?
