Forum Discussion: Strange Things Christians Say
Nov 9th 2011, 08:00

Christians can easily find themselves defending a lot of bizarre ideas and beliefs in order to maintain their religion. Because those ideas are so bizarre, Christians also end up saying very strange things when trying to explain their ideas. So what's the strangest thing you've seen or heard a Christian saying?

A forum member writes:

The strangest thing I ever heard a Christian say was that god made the light from stars billions of lightyears away, in distant galaxies, BEFORE god created the STARS in those galaxies, when asked, "if the universe is only 6-10 thousand years old, how do you explain the light just arriving to earth now from some 13 billion lightyears (and, hence, we see light from 13 billion years into the past)?" This, of course, was from an ID proponent, from that Discovery Institute, in California.

I have to admit, that's incredibly bizarre and ridiculous -- but it also follows from a commitment to a belief in a young universe. The facts we have don't support a young universe, so if you're going to refuse to accept facts then you have find some means of explaining them away. It's inevitable that that will produce silly arguments.

Have you seen or heard something even stranger, though? Add your thoughts to the comments here or join the ongoing discussion in the forum.
