Why is there Bigotry, Prejudice Against Atheists? Origins of Anti-Atheist Animus Nov 12th 2011, 15:00 There is a lot of bigotry and prejudice against atheists in the United States. Although many different reasons are cited for these anti-atheist attitudes, the one thing they almost all have in common is that they are false. People justify their animus towards atheists by saying things about atheists that aren't true. Atheists are thus hated based on what people imagine about them, not based on anything about atheism itself. This makes atheists the new American scapegoats.
