Their anti-gay animus stems from religion, religious traditions, religious doctrines, and religious scripture. They cannot offer any of that in debates about secular law, though, so they rely on arguments which never convinced them in the first place. And that, in turn, is why their arguments always fail - if their arguments aren't convincing to them, how can they convince the rest of us?
