Make it known on the Discussion Forum! Available on this site are a large number of short biographies of a wide variety of philosophers throughout history. A few of the biographies are of other intellectuals - psychologists, sociologists, scientists and others. However, the vast majority are philosophers of one sort or another. For the convenience of users, I am adding additional indexes to go alongside the main one. Thus, there is not only the "complete" listing that includes all relevant biographies, but there are also sub-indexes that collect together biographies of famous philosophers by type and/or nationality. The first two additions are the Ancient Greek Philosophers and the American Philosophers. Complete Biographical Index This is the full biographical index of philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, scientists and others who have made major contributions to our understanding of our world and the human condition. Highlights: •  Berlin, Isaiah •  Descartes, Rene •  Jung, Carl Gustav •  Smith, Adam American Philosophers This biographical index lists only famous America philosophers. Choosing who should and should not be included here is difficult. If a Russian philosopher studies in England and teaches at Harvard, does he belong in this list or not? Not everyone here was born in the United States; however, if they eventually became American citizens and/or did some of their most significant work here, contributing directly to the America's intellectual and academic climate, then I chose to include them in this index. A few of the biographies are of other intellectuals - jurists, sociologists, scientists and others. However, the vast majority are philosophers of one sort or another. Highlights: •  Acton, JED •  Burke, Edmund •  Gibbon, Edward •  Venn, John Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophers This biographical index focuses on ancient Greek and Roman philosophers - some very famous, some less so. If you are looking for more information about ancient Greek and Roman philosophy and it's impact upon our society and philosophy today, this is a good place to start.
