Frank Borzellieri Fired for Racism from Catholic School
Jan 17th 2012, 12:00

Frank Borzellieri was principal at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in the Bronx. He also has ties to white supremacists and has written that blacks -- who make up the majority of students in that school -- are genetically inferior to whites. Since that's much worse than raping children, he was fired from the Catholic school.

If Frank Borzellieri had simply molested some of his students, he might have been able to get another job at a different Catholic school.

"I'm so glad I just can't tell you," said Annemarie Zagaglia, former principal at St. Barnabas elementary school. "People are really happy."

Zagaglia had warned the pastor at Mount Carmel about Borzellieri's beliefs before he was hired in 2009 - but says she was ignored. The school's students are mostly black and Latino. ...

The News revealed that as a Queens school board member, Borzellieri tried to bar "anti-American" literature - including a biography of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - from school libraries.

His own writings included a 2004 book asserting "diversity is a weakness," and Borzellieri was a frequent contributor to the white supremacist publication American Renaissance.

It's noteworthy that the pastor was fully aware of Frank Borzellieri's racism and didn't care. I have to wonder if perhaps he shares Borzellieri's views or is at least sympathetic to that sort of racism. Otherwise, I can't fathom why he'd consider such a person to be an appropriate administrator in a school where most of the kids are racial minorities. It's a bit like putting an avowed anti-Semite in charge of a Jewish school or a raging misogynist in charge of a girl's school.

The "Thinking" Housewife attempts to defend Frank Borzellieri and describes his firing as "outrageous" because he merely has "conservative" views on race. I suppose we should take her at her word and henceforth describe white supremacism and the claim that blacks are genetically inferior to whites as simply the "conservative" view of race.

She links to an article of Borzellieri's where he insists that "liberals are the [Catholic] Church's master" and that the "liberalism" he sees everywhere in the various policy and social positions of the Catholic Church is "unprincipled cowardice," sucking up to "political correctness," and downright un-Catholic.

The problem is, nowhere in his lengthy article does he ever make anything approaching a theological argument. Indeed, he doesn't even really make any sort of argument period -- it's just a litany of complaints about and attacks on everything he doesn't like in the Catholic Church.

At no point does Frank Borzellieri explain why the positions in question are wrong. Most importantly, he doesn't try to explain why they are wrong from a Catholic perspective -- he doesn't inform readers of how or why a more "proper" Catholic position would be different from what the official Church position currently is.

The housewife, who doesn't appear to have done any thinking before writing her post, apparently didn't notice this crucial flaw. Perhaps it's because Frank Borzellieri was repeating a bunch of political opinions which she happened to agree with. Perhaps she, too, has a "conservative" view on race and is eager to defend what he's written. That would make the absence of substance irrelevant -- and the absence of thinking unimportant.
