Weekly Poll: Are You Convinced You're Right About Things in Life?
Oct 27th 2011, 08:00

Most people are probably confident that they are right about at least some things in their lives, otherwise they would be making more of an effort to change things about their lives. At least one survey, though, has found that atheist and agnostics are on average less convinced that they are right about things in their lives than "active-faith" adults. Why would this be?

One possible reason is that atheists and agnostics tend to be skeptical generally and thus are more willing to take seriously the possibility that they are wrong. This would be especially true if they used to be religious theists -- if they found that they were wrong about religion and god, they'd have to be ready to accept being wrong about more.

Another possible reason is that they just aren't very confident in their overall worldview or philosophy. Given all the negative messages in American society about atheism, that's not hard to understand.

But what about you? Are you convinced that you're right about major issues in life? Why or why not?
