Texas governor Rick Perry has a lot of support from the far-right family values crowd -- a crowd that is well known for it's hostility to pornography and sex. This makes the support for Rick Perry a bit odd since Perry once invested money in a company that produced pornography: Movie Gallery.

This wasn't a small time operation, either. When Rick Perry invested in Movie Gallery in 1995, it was the largest distributer of porn in America. What's more, their methods made it possible for people all over America to buy porn at lower and lower prices. That may be why Movie Gallery was specifically targeted by the American Family Association

In the ensuing years, the AFA went so far as to undertake a national ad campaign to draw attention to Movie Gallery's porn practices, and wrote the DoJ and state AG's demanding, "DOJ and State Prosecutors throughout the country should begin immediate investigations to determine if the products and practices of Movie Gallery Video Stores violate Federal and State laws regarding distribution of obscene material. Movie Gallery is one of America's largest retailers of hard-core sex videos. Their attempt to acquire family friendly neighborhood Hollywood Video stores across the U.S. poses a serious threat to our communities!" ...

Rick Perry later passed laws to help companies like Movie Gallery avoid "frivolous" tort suits, after they were sued for allegedly violating the law by illegally distributing porn across state lines. This move was seen by some as a move to protect his investment in Movie Gallery, as he used the very word Movie Gallery used ("frivolous") regarding the lawsuits they were fighting at the time.

So I guess Rick Perry became something of a porn mogul in Texas -- how much money do you suppose Rick Perry made by helping distribute pornography and by making cheap porn available around America? How much money do you think Rick Perry made by helping distribute the very material which he and his supporters would like to ban?

Did Rick Perry make more money from distributing movies like "Teens Never Say No" and "Teens with T*ts" or was there more profit in "Bisexual Barebacking Vol. 1" and "Big Tit Brotha Lovers 6"? Inquiring minds want to know... but not any of the "minds" at organizations like the American Family Association because they would seem to prefer that we all just ignore and forget about this.
