Comment of the Week: Christian Code Language
Sep 6th 2011, 08:00

Every religion and indeed every ideology has some of its own terminology -- ideas and concepts which only make real sense to someone who has studied the system. That's not a problem. With fundamentalist and conservative evangelical Christians in America today, though, there seems to be an entire language developing -- not just specialized terminology, but rather something that works almost like a code that will be recognized by those "in the know" but will be incomprehensible to others.

James writes:

I have noticed that in the recent evolution (no pun intended) of fundamentalist Christianity in the USA, a very rigid set of rules, a mindset and even language peculiar to fundamentalists have appeared. It reminds me of the people who I used to see in L.A. that "worked" for the Church of Scientology.

After indoctrination, they really couldn't converse normally anymore. Today's fundamentalist Christians are exhibiting just such behavior. I was in a store in the South in which everyone working there claimed to be "Christian". The sounds emanating from their mouths amounted to a Christian "code" language. These young people would not be able to function in any sort of normal environment. They are complete and total zombies. They are mindless slaves.

I once watched a Church of Christ preacher on television. This person was so infected with his make-believe religion that he was hard to watch without laughing. He made a statement about the non-Christian world and "abortionists", stating that, "..there's no telling who they've killed---maybe the person that could have cured cancer!" When the television camera panned around the room and I could see the faithful church-going zombies, I wondered how many people his church had killed. How many people were enslaved by their beliefs and never realized their full potential as human beings? This, in my opinion, is the real crime.

Do you see this sort of thing happening? If so, why do you think it's happening?
