Church Tells HIV Patients to Stop Taking Medication
Dec 15th 2011, 12:00

The Synagogue Church of All Nations in Southwark is telling people that they can be healed of their HIV with prayer and faith. The church claims a "100% success rate." Well, I suppose it might be true if your goal is to kill off the gullible. Is this a church, or an exercise is Darwinism? Or maybe both?

Undercover reporters who posed as worshippers infected with HIV in south London were told that pastors could heal them. The journalists underwent a 'healing process' where they were sprayed in the face with water while a member of the church called for the devil to come out.

Rachel Holmes, one of the pastors, told a reporter that if symptoms persist it is simply HIV leaving the body. 'We have many people that contract HIV. All are healed,' she told Sky News.

'We've had people come back before saying, "Oh I'm not healed. The diarrhoea I had when I had HIV, I've got it again".

'I have to stop them and say, "No, please, you are free".'

The Synagogue Church of All Nations has a presence around the world and members are expected to give money.

It is also a registered charity in Britain - which confers a variety of tax advantages. ...

A spokesman for the Synagogue Church of All Nations, London branch, said: "We are not the Healer; God is the Healer. Never a sickness God cannot heal. If somebody is healed, it is God who heals."

The preference of faith over science, medicine, facts, and reality comes with real-world consequences. The insistence that science is just another "interpretation" while faith and religion have just as much validity is something that will kill you.

Science works; faith doesn't. Science has provided cures and treatments for diseases and injuries; faith doesn't. Science has provided the means to improve hygiene and living conditions; faith doesn't. Science has provided the ability to identify risk factors and improve people's chances; faith doesn't.

Science is an imperfect and flawed as human beings, but it's also proven over and over again that it's our best method for understanding and making the best of the world around us. Dismissing or rejecting science thus ultimately means dismissing or rejecting the real world in favor of some comforting ideology.
