If you've ever entered into a debate with a theist or even merely told a theist that you are an atheist, chances are you've encountered some staggeringly bad misconceptions about what atheism is and who atheists are. Indeed, I find it difficult to remember the last time I encountered a theist who didn't suffer from multiple such misconceptions, most of which are bigoted. How do you deal with this?

You would not believe the things that are attributed to us by religionists. We are said to be arrogant as well as foolish if we do participate in any of the traditional holidays. They say we make claims that there are definitely no gods out there and that there is no afterlife ... I don't remember making definitive claims.
What sorts of reactions do you commonly get from theists when they find out that you are an atheist -- is it ever positive? Do you get asked questions, or do you simply find that people make all sorts of assumptions about you, even if they don't know you?
