In the Old Testament, the Books of Kings pick up where the Books of Samuel ended and describe the descent of the kings of Israel and Judah into apostasy and idolatry. The Books of Kings were written from the perspective of religious zealots living in Judah and they condemn everything done by the kings of the northern kingdom of Israel. Those zealots especially hated how people were allowed a measure of religious freedom.
